❓ Tell us about yourself
I was born and raised in Jamaica but I currently reside in New York. I’m a Journalist by profession but currently work as a freelance writer and editor. I am also a poet, serial entrepreneur, author, wedding officiant, and online talk show host.
My online program “Conversations with Trudy” raises awareness about mental health, human trafficking, domestic violence, racial profiling, rape culture, lupus, sickle cell, sexual trauma, COVID-19, and more. The program runs every Wednesday at 8pm EST on FB live and is rebroadcast on Newstalk 93FM in Jamaica and Karibbean Vibez Radio in New York.
I am the proud mother of a 22-year-old daughter who recently graduated college.
I am passionate about women empowerment and helping the less fortunate, as well as motivating and inspiring the younger generation.
❓ What is an interesting fact about yourself?
I love to learn and I’m always trying to learn new things. I taught myself how to build websites and I’ve just finished building my second e-commerce website. (The first was built by someone else.) Last year, I learned how to file my own taxes. I am also now learning how to make candles and lip gloss and how to print on T-shirts, mugs, and caps.
❓ How did you first find out about Clubhouse?
My niece told me about it in December of 2020 but I told her I wasn’t interested. One day, someone I follow on IG posted a story about a room they were hosting and I realized serious conversations take place on CH. I went back to my niece and asked her to send me an invitation.
❓ What do you love most about being a part of Sticky Beak Club?
What I love most about the Sticky Beak club is that it is community-oriented. We have a diverse group of people from all over the world, of many different backgrounds. Bryan and Jason try to make sure that every member of the club benefits from their membership in some way and they work very hard and have had sleepless nights to build, not just a community, but a brand. They also make sure that each moderator has a voice. Sticky Beak members are also very supportive.
❓ What is your favorite other club on Clubhouse, and why?
I would like to say mine but I don’t want to be biased because I don’t schedule rooms often enough under my clubs. I can think of a room, which is the Joyful Jamaican Room, but right now I can’t think of a club…I love so many. Hmmm…wait…maybe I can…it’s called “I’m Backing the Culture“. It’s a new club that’s focusing on preserving our Jamaican culture by bringing Jamaican creatives on Clubhouse together in an effort to modernize the Jamaican Story, transform the portrayal of Jamaica’s National Heroes, and connect the world to our culture.
❓ Who is your favorite person on Clubhouse and why?
My daughter. She’s my favorite person anywhere and everywhere…even though she’s not very active on CH. She only attends my events.
❓ If you host a room on Clubhouse – tell us more about it!
I host a room under the Sticky Beak Club called CH Freshmen (Newbies) Welcome Class – we offer a walkthrough of the app, as well as tips to navigate the app more effectively so new users can have a greater experience. In a couple weeks, I will also be hosting a room titled “Ask a Jamaican” where attendants can ask questions about Jamaica and Jamaicans.
I also host two rooms under my club “Yaadie Vybz” – one on Sunday mornings at 8:30am EST titled “Inspirational Sundays with Dr. Jasmine.” Dr Jasmine is a phenomenal woman and speaker and she breaks down the scriptures and juxtaposes them, then shows us how they apply to our everyday life which allows us to gain deeper insight. The other is a poetry and storytelling room at 4pm EST. Poets, storytellers, singers and rappers get together to share pieces of their work.
Occasionally, I host rooms under my club “Conversations with Trudy” where I allow anyone who has a story to tell their story and answer questions.
I also co-host the Joyful Jamaican room under the “Jamaica: Roots + Culture” club weekdays from 1-2pm.
❓ What tip would you share with people who are new to Clubhouse?
Hard to share just one.
*Hop into different rooms and see what they’re about before you start following clubs.
*Follow people who resonate with you. The people and clubs you follow will determine the experience you have on Clubhouse.
*Get on stage. If you have nothing of value to add, ask a question.
❓ What resonates most about 🦘Australia for you?
I’ve never been to Australia but Australians are so fun, free-spirited and inclusive…and Australia has “cockroach racing” :-). I mean, whose idea was that?!! LOL
❓ If there is one thing Sticky Beak could do to improve what would it be?
Slow down lol…my brain gets tired with everything that’s happening sometimes lol – but seriously, nothing they aren’t already doing.
❓ If there was one thing Clubhouse could do to improve what would that be?
Add a search function that allows CH users to easily find a room they want to be in. Also one that allows us to search through our followers for people with certain key words in their bios. That’s two, I know. 🙂
